If your vehicle has any driver assistance features — lane departure warning, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, or forward collision alerts — the answer is almost certainly yes. These systems use cameras mounted to or near the windshield and must be recalibrated whenever the glass is replaced.
A mis-calibrated system may brake for objects that aren't there, fail to detect real hazards, or give incorrect lane departure warnings. In some cases the system disables itself and throws a warning light. The risk is real — and it's not covered by a glass warranty if you waived calibration.
Some vehicles — particularly newer models from BMW, Mercedes, and certain Toyota and Honda platforms — require OEM glass for the ADAS camera to calibrate correctly. We'll advise you before we start based on your specific vehicle, so there are no surprises.
Static recalibration (performed at the vehicle with targets) typically takes 30–60 minutes after the glass has been installed and the adhesive has cured. We perform calibration on-site as part of the same appointment — you don't need a second visit.
Many comprehensive insurance policies cover ADAS recalibration as part of a windshield replacement claim. Coverage varies by carrier and policy. We work with all major insurers and can advise you on what's typically covered before you book.
